Does your browser look like this?

Microsofts browser Edge has a new feature called Workspaces. Find out what Workspaces is, what it does, and how you could utilise it to benefit you and your productivity.

If so, you need this feature!

We all have our own ways of working and more often than not they all differ. Some may prefer to have a minimal amount of items displayed on our screens whilst others thrive when everything is open and insight.

One thing that we can all agree on is that having 15+ tabs open in a browser at any one time is only going to do one thing and that is negatively affect productivity. This is simply because you aren’t going to remember whether the information or service you are looking for is in tab 3, tab 7, tab 12, or tab 27!

This might not be a problem for much longer!

Welcome to the new feature, Workspaces from Microsoft’s browser Edge.

Originally revealed back in April 2021, Workspaces has since been something Microsoft has been very quiet about, until now.

The latest preview of Edge that has just been released for developers includes an option to create new Workspaces. We could be about to see the feature being rolled out in the months to come.

What Workspaces exactly is and what its benefits are.

Well, Workspaces simply allows you to group together numerous browser tabs, and open or close these with a single click.

There are a number of ways in which this feature can be used, whether that be to keep work-related and personal information separate or to group together information relating to different projects. These groups can be named and colour coded so it is super easy for you to find the right information at the right time. Unless you delete a workspace, when you close and reopen Edge, all your tabs will be there waiting for you.

At the moment there is no release date for Workspaces yet, but one thing is for sure, Workspaces is going to transform your workspace whether you are the kind of person that likes everything open and insight or you prefer a minimal amount of items displayed in your workspace.

If you can’t wait to get stuck in, there is more good news, Google’s Chrome browser already offers a similar feature called tab groups. With a simple right-click you can group together tabs, label them and colour code them too. You can also reorganise them on your tab strip too to further organise them.
