Is Your Firm Paying Too Much for Its IT?

Regulated firms tend to pay more for IT than their peers, and often can't tell whether the premium is buying genuine operational resilience or simply reassurance. In under five minutes, this benchmarks your firm's IT investment against what a practice of your size should be spending — and checks whether it covers what the FCA, your PI insurer and client due diligence now expect.

What you get

Three answers, not a sales brochure

Your report arrives by email as soon as you finish, with your headline result on screen straight away.

01

What you should be paying

A benchmark built from your own numbers — headcount, servers, offices — against Little Big Tech's standard commercial rates. Support, licences, network and the project and hardware budget most contracts leave out entirely.

02

What that money should buy

Twelve plain-English questions on what you're actually covered for. Price on its own proves nothing: a cheap contract that leaves you exposed is not a saving, and an expensive one is not automatically a bad deal.

03

Where you stand, and what to do

Your investment position, the specific gaps we'd prioritise, and how each one maps to your Technology Resilience Score™ — so you know exactly which conversation to have with your provider first.

Why it's a hard question

Nobody publishes what IT should cost

Financial services IT quotes are close to impossible to compare directly. Platform integrations, back-office systems and compliance tooling all get bundled differently, and the underlying managed service — the part that determines your actual resilience — is usually the least clearly priced element of the lot.

Price is also only half the question when you're regulated. Operational resilience expectations mean the cost of a gap includes regulatory exposure and client detriment, not just disruption. So this check looks at what you pay and what it genuinely covers, together.

Why this matters for a regulated firm

Operational resilience is no longer a technical topic. The FCA expects firms to understand their important business services and what would happen if they were interrupted.
Client due diligence and PI renewal both increasingly ask for evidence of specific controls, and "we use a good IT company" is no longer a sufficient answer.
Client financial data carries a higher bar than ordinary personal data, and a breach involving it is a Consumer Duty problem as well as an ICO one.
Payment fraud aimed at advice and broking firms is persistent and well-targeted, and it works through people and email rather than technical weaknesses.

Questions people ask first

How long does it take?

Under five minutes. Three short steps: your setup, what you pay today, and twelve questions on what that covers. Estimates are fine throughout — the comparison holds up on approximate figures.

Do I need to know technical details?

No. Every question is written for a business owner or finance director, not an IT manager. "Not sure" is an available answer on all twelve coverage questions, and it's a useful one — if you can't confirm you're buying something, that's worth knowing in itself.

Is this a sales pitch?

It's a benchmark, and it can just as easily tell you that you're getting good value. Roughly speaking, if you're paying a fair rate and receiving a full service, the report says so and recommends you verify quality rather than change provider.

What if my provider does things differently?

Then the report will tell you where and by how much, which is the point. It's an indicative benchmark rather than a quotation — it can't account for something specific to your contract that we haven't asked about. What it does do is give you a defensible basis for the conversation.

What happens to my figures?

They're used to build your report, which is emailed to you. We don't share your data. If you'd like us to walk you through the result we'll offer a call, and you're free to decline it.

What's the difference between this and the Technology Resilience Score assessment?

This answers a commercial question: am I paying the right amount, and getting the right things? The Technology Resilience Score™ assessment answers a quality question: how well is each of those things actually working? Most people start here and move on to the assessment once they've seen where the gaps are.

Does this cover our platform or back-office system?

The benchmark covers the managed service, licensing, network and infrastructure underneath your systems, plus a project and hardware refresh allowance. Platform and back-office licensing is specific to your provider and sits outside the comparison — the report says so plainly rather than quietly absorbing it.

Little Big Tech have supported our business for about 4 years now and the team have always been super efficient and responsive. My emails were hacked and LBT instantly stepped in — Matt and John were on the case before I even knew I had a problem. They sorted the issue, isolated my system and drafted an update I could send to my clients. I can't recommend them enough.

I couldn't recommend Little Big Tech strongly enough. They have been entirely focused on my needs as a small business owner, and have delivered over and above what I asked for at fantastic value for money. On top of all that, they have an awesome vibe — proactive, engaged, kind, warm — everything you could hope for in a tech service provider.

The onboarding service is excellent and supportive. When we have an issue or a concern, they respond swiftly and provide proactive guidance and support. Such a great team — not just a nameless call centre. We are able to speak with people we know and we feel supported.

The team at Little Big Tech have transformed our backup and storage situation. Working with our quite specific infrastructure setup, they've deployed a network storage system we can trust. Always at the end of the phone or there to assist via email — there's nobody I would rather have our managed IT services with.

Having got by without an IT Support Provider, I had fallen into the trap of learning to live with a bad system, poor setup and dreadful security. What steered me towards Little Big Tech was the belief they would solve problems I did not even know I had — and they have. These guys may be comparatively small but the team is of the highest quality. Every communication is productive and informative.
